The legendary Tuvan throat-singing ensemble Alash is visiting Maggie Walker on Monday, February 12th

“By a stroke of great fortune, the legendary Tuvan throat-singing ensemble Alash will be visiting Maggie Walker on Monday, February 12,” said Michael White, teacher and department chair of the International Languages Department. The group will perform for his Slavic Folklore senior seminar students.

ALASH ensemble is a trio of master throat singers (xöömeizhi) from Tuva, a tiny republic in the heart of Inner Asia. The ancient art of throat singing (xöömei) developed among the nomadic herdsmen of this region. Alash remains grounded in this tradition while expanding its musical vocabulary with new ideas from the West.

Any student who has a Study Hall during fifth-block is invited to attend…proceed to the black box.
