IMG_0775croppedRepresenting the 7th District of Virginia, U.S. Congressman Dave Brat visited Maggie Walker Governor’s School on Wednesday, March 11th.  During his time at MLWGS, the Congressman met with Dr. Jeff McGee – Director, discussed issues with students from EduPac, and visited both Mr. McGuire’s AP Comparative Government class and Dr. Oreska’s AP Econ class during 3rd period where he observed classroom discussion and/or projects, followed by a question period from students.

Congressman Brat concluded his visit with lunch in the board room alongside students from ‘We the People’ and their sponsor Mr. Ulmschneider, Dr. McGee, Mr. McGuire, Dr. Oreska, students from Model Congress, YRC and EduPac, and Mrs. Laura O’Brien from the PTSA Advocacy Committee. During their luncheon, the Congressman was open to any question students wanted to ask, and many did, inquiring about topics as far ranging as the preservation of antiquities in Iraq to the Congressman’s housing in DC.  Congressman Brat was impressed with MLWGS student knowledge and awareness of current events, remarking “you’re like graduate students!”

Thank you Congressman Brat for sharing your time and expertise with the students of Maggie Walker Governor’s School.
