The Center for the Study of the Urban Child is hosting its second annual Urban Child Symposium where the aim is to continue to encourage collaborative discourse among critical stakeholders in the community and in addressing issues relevant that impact urban children from a multidisciplinary perspective, subsequently bridging the gap between research, policy, practice, and the urban community.
Holding true to the Symposium’s theme, the Center will assemble academicians, practitioners, policy makers, advocates, religious leaders, community citizens, youth and other community stakeholders to dialogue about the current urban community issues that impact the academic, psychosocial, physical growth of urban youth.
Embracing the philosophy that a whole is greater than the individual parts that make up that whole, this year’s theme “The Whole Child is Greater than the Sum of Its Parts” will focus on urban children and the multidisciplinary systems that influence and promote their development. Rather than solely addressing the prevalence of individual problems and concerns that plague urban children, we are encouraging presenters to conceptualize the prevalence of these issues within the context of the current systems.
