Our $3.7 million for Governor’s School and a huge infusion of dollars generally for public education were in the Governor’s proposed budget which was released this morning. Looks like the increase for Governor’s Schools phases in with 50% of the $3.7M increase in 2017 and the full $3.7M in 2018.
In spite of the rain it is indeed a beautiful day…
Inclusion in the Governor’s proposed budget is a MAJOR accomplishment. Thank you so very much for your tireless support which was led at MLWGS by Laura O’Brien, Marianne Macon, Anne Hayes, and our EduPAC club! Also, thanks to Laura for drafting the core of this message.
From here, we need to passionately communicate our support of these increases in Governor’s School and public education funding to all members of the General Assembly. We need their support to ensure that this additional money for all 19 Governor’s Schools (as well as the funding for K12 in general) is included the FINAL budget which typically finalized at the end of the General Assembly session in April. An action plan for advocacy will be communicated soon.
