The Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School Regional Board meeting will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at 9:00 am. Location: Room 153 (Adjunct Classroom). This meeting will include public hearings for the AY2027 proposed operating budget and the 2026-2031 proposed strategic plan.

In February, the board will recognize the talented student medalists of the 2026 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, along with two students who have received international travel awards. Additionally, we plan to celebrate School Board Appreciation Month during this meeting and acknowledge Board Clerks Appreciation Week.
Regular business will include an update from the executive director on a wide spectrum of topics, including February’s personnel actions and January’s fiscal reports. The board will be asked to approve both the school’s 2026-2027 operating calendar and an amended policy related to financial operations.
Included in the review section of the meeting, the executive director will present her proposal for the AY27 operating budget to the board and the public. Mrs. Janssen will be asking for an additional $697,284 in spending to cover teacher and staff pay raises and facility maintenance. The public will have opportunities to comment before the board finalizes or changes her proposal in March.
Other items in the review section include a first read on the proposed AY27 Student Fee Schedule and an audit report from Cherry Bekaert LLP. Lastly, we will hold a second public hearing on the proposed 2026-2031 strategic plan. The public will have opportunities to comment before the board finalizes or changes the proposal in March.
